Within the NavPro group, specialized companies contribute complementary capabilities to complex wayfinding projects. In this case, Abuzz provides the indoor wayfinding solution, while Geograma prepares the indoor mapping base required for its implementation.

With this objective, Geograma developed the digital model of Granada Mall, located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, across its three floors, creating a structured, clear and functional indoor map. The project included retail units, services, connections, empty areas and the elements required for Abuzz’s solution to represent the building correctly and calculate routes between points of interest.

Challenge

The main challenge was to transform the available shopping mall plans into a simplified geometric base, organized in layers and ready to be integrated into an indoor navigation solution. The goal was not just to build a visual representation of the asset, but to create an indoor map that could be effectively used in a real digital environment.

The model had to include approximately 450 POIs and logos, 100 empty areas, 40 restroom zones, as well as all the links and generic elements required for navigation. This also involved representing the public parking area and the surrounding external roads, while maintaining the right balance between visual clarity, model lightness and proper viewer performance.

Solution

Geograma approached the project using SketchUp, following a working methodology defined together with Abuzz and designed for later integration into its ecosystem. The team generated the basic geometry of units, services, facilities, routes, connections between areas, and the logo layer, building a coherent spatial structure for the shopping mall as a whole.

In addition, complementary elements such as parking areas, roads, non-commercial indoor spaces, restrooms, elevators and voids were also modeled. Once the modeling work was completed, the layers were prepared for export in OBJ format and a thorough geometric validation was carried out, reviewing errors, warnings and route consistency.

Geograma’s contribution was to transform complex source documentation into an indoor map ready to feed Abuzz’s wayfinding solution, ensuring that the cartographic base met the system’s requirements for navigation, visualization and operational use.

Results

The result was a structured, lightweight digital model ready for integration into Abuzz’s wayfinding solution. Thanks to this foundation, the system can represent Granada Mall clearly, help users locate stores, services and access points, and support internal route calculation to improve the visitor experience.

Beyond the specific deliverable, the project is a concrete example of the NavPro group model: Abuzz provides the indoor navigation technology, while Geograma delivers the cartographic preparation required for that technology to work effectively in a real environment.

As added value, Geograma provided a repeatable methodology for shopping malls, geometric quality control and a data preparation approach designed for future digital wayfinding deployments in retail assets and other complex spaces.
