What is SafeGIS and what is its purpose?
SafeGIS is GEOGRAMA’s cybersecurity service, specialized in the technologies that make up the software supply chain in GIS infrastructures.
Its function is to continuously monitor the technologies that support the infrastructure of a service in production from a security perspective.
The objective is for the client to easily and periodically know the risk level of its infrastructure and be able to make informed decisions to minimize risks and service interruptions.
What is the software supply chain?
It is the set of technologies on which a digital service is based.
Each service runs on different applications and software components, which are exposed to multiple security events over time. These events directly affect the cybersecurity level of the infrastructure in which they operate.
Regulations such as the National Security Scheme or the European Union’s NIS2 Directive already require monitoring and controlling these events, paying special attention to critical aspects such as version obsolescence, product lifecycle and the history of vulnerabilities associated with each technology.
What problem is it trying to solve?
You can update and patch everything (very high investment and effort), patch only what is being exploited (high efficiency) or target broad protection (high coverage), but not all at the same time. SafeGIS Risk Score adjusts these thresholds – depending on the context of your infrastructure – to optimize results.
SafeGIS proposes a new approach to prioritize the response to vulnerabilities in GIS infrastructures, as an alternative to traditional tools such as CVSS, arbitrary decision making or doing nothing.
Our system is based on a decision tree adapted to the specific context of each infrastructure. This method generates a quantitative indicator, SafeGIS Risk Score, and – more importantly – provides decision points with qualitative conclusions that allow resources to be focused on the areas where they are really needed.
