Industry 4.0: Precise Inventory Control of Biomass and Grain in Horizontal Silos

  • Are you losing biomass and grain in your horizontal silos?
  • Do you need a solution for precise inventory control of biomass and grain?

The Neptune plan, through Innosup funding under Horizon 2020, supported and financed the ISMASS project, which aimed to provide IoT solutions for the continuous, automated, and low-cost monitoring of volume, temperature, and relative humidity in biomass and grain storage facilities. The consortium consisted of three companies, and Geograma was responsible for designing and developing the tool for monitoring stock levels and temperature in biomass and grain storage facilities. In addition to volumetric data from the silo, captured using a 3D laser sensor, the solution was designed to display temperature and humidity data collected via various sensors.

Challenges / Needs

The most significant challenges were creating a 3D representation of the silo based on the point cloud obtained from the 3D laser sensor and integrating it into the tool along with the rest of the data collected by various sensors. Solution The web application offers the following functionality:

  • Login: An authentication screen that provides a layer of security and enables role-based permission management.

  • 2D Silo Reconstruction Panel: Screen displaying information about the entire silo. Here, you can view the silo’s total occupancy volume, as well as the current temperature and humidity. The tool also features an alert system that will display notifications if any of the parameters exceed the limits defined by the user.

  • 3D Warehouse Reconstruction Panel: A screen that displays detailed information about a specific warehouse selected from the 2D silo view. This new view displays a 3D reconstruction of the storage bay, providing a visual representation of its volumetric occupancy. In addition, the panel displays information on the bay’s location within the silo, as well as current and historical data on capacity, temperature, humidity, and the material stored within the bay.

In addition, the tool includes a toolbar that allows users to view notifications, set the alarm thresholds for which they want alerts to be displayed, and access their profile information.
