Workshop EUROGI Open Geodata

Geograma will participate in this EUROGI workshop on the usefulness of open geodata.

The workshop, entitled “Beyond SDI: Open data in a sustainable geospatial ecosystem”, aims to bridge the gap between the existence of open geographic data and its practical utility by presenting some real use cases.

This will take place next Tuesday 24 May at 14:00 CET and, during the event, our CEO, Alejandro Guinea, will give a presentation on Spatial Data Infrastructures in Spain. Here we give you more information about the event.

Workshop agenda, topics to be covered and speakers

The event consists of 3 presentations, concluding with a final discussion session among all attendees and participants.

14:00 – 14:15. Open Data Ecosystems – a new public sector role?

During this presentation, a Danish public agency’s vision of data ecosystems, the creation of value from them and ways of collaboration to achieve it will be provided.

All this in a societal scenario that presents increasingly complex problems and a multitude of diverse user needs. With citizens in focus, open spatial data has a key role to play in making decisions to improve their lives.

Speaker: Ulla Kronborg Mazzoli

Senior advisor at the Danish Agency for Data Supply and Efficiency, where she works with digital governance, data infrastructure, data-driven innovation and value creation.

She is the national contact point for INSPIRE and the Danish representative in several EU expert groups. Ulla holds a Master’s degree in Geography and a Diploma in Leadership and Management. She is chair of the International Committee of the Danish Geographic Information Association.

14:15 – 14:30. Benefits and value of the national SDI in Spain

Although it is undeniable that properly used Spatial Data Infrastructures have a positive impact on many aspects of society, it is also true that there are not many studies on the economic impact of SDIs and geospatial open data.

In this session, a Spanish paper will be discussed which deals precisely with this and how much and what are the benefits of national SDI.

Speaker: Alejandro Guinea de Salas

Alejandro Guinea de Salas is the CEO of Geograma. We are a provider of professional mapping, location and geodata services, helping companies accelerate data monetisation, create new revenue streams and achieve operational excellence through the use of geospatial information.

14:30 – 14:45. Good Practices for Cloud Native Open Data

SDIs are rapidly evolving towards a system of systems enabled by geospatial infrastructure.

While there are well-known best practices for sharing downloadable data and metadata through traditional data clearinghouses, does this new global data ecosystem require special considerations? Are new best practices needed for sharing cloud-native open data?

Speaker: Jill Saligoe-Simmel

Senior Product Manager for Geospatial Infrastructure and INSPIRE at Esri, where he leads the product strategy for the next generation Spatial Data Infrastructure.

With 25 years of experience in geospatial technology, data governance and policy, at state and national levels. Trusted advisor to multi-organisational collaborations planning and implementing integrated geospatial infrastructure.

14:45 – 15:00. Open discussion
